Myths about wigs - false or true, debated so that you know what to choose
Are you thinking about buying a wig because it’s fun and interesting, and because you can instantly change your look? But you’re faced with some ideas that raise questions. In the following lines, we address a few myths about wigs.
Myth 1: When you wear a wig, the difference is immediately obvious!
False – In fact, it all comes down to quality. When you wear a Belher brand wig, made from natural hair or special fiber, no one will suspect it’s not your own hair. However, you need to maintain it properly and attach it correctly. Otherwise, no one will know you’re wearing it unless you choose to tell them.
Myth 2: Maintenance is difficult!
False – Think about the care you give your natural hair. You need to maintain your wig with the same attention. Of course, when trying a product for the first time, everything is new and the care routine may take longer, but once you get used to it, everything becomes quicker and not at all difficult. What does it involve:
- Regular washing, every 14 days or even more often if you wear it daily. Use the special products for this purpose, which you can find in our e-shop. See here.
- During washing, use moderately warm water in which you dissolve the cleaning and care products; do not apply them directly to the wig. Use gentle movements and rinse thoroughly.
- It is recommended to let it air dry, but it’s also fine to use a hair dryer.
- Use a stand to maintain its shape and prevent damage.

Myth 3: Wigs make you dependent on stylists and salons!
False – During this period when the pandemic has closed salons, we are all challenged to manage on our own. Of course, it’s easier to go to a salon for wig maintenance. It’s preferable to do this for your first experience, but afterwards, with the necessary products, you can manage at home.
You can also try different styling options, and at the salon, you’re more likely to be pleased with the results. At home, you can experiment with straight or slightly wavy hair. However, you’ll need a special device and you should consider the hair fiber’s resistance—each wig comes with instructions regarding heat resistance and the maximum temperature for styling.
Myth 4: The wig will fall off when the wind blows!
False, if you attach and secure it properly. There’s no need to worry about sizes because at Belher you’ll find wigs in universal sizes. These can be adjusted and secured according to the size you need. At the back, there are two elastic bands that you can adjust so it’s neither too loose nor too tight.
There is no risk of it falling off if you secure it well on your head. So, you don’t need to worry about the wind ruining your hair. Also, it’s important to tie your natural hair securely at the back, not at the top of your head, to prevent the wig from lifting due to a bun you might make.
Myth 5: Wearing a wig damages your natural hair and scalp!
False, because hair can grow regardless of whether the scalp is often covered or not. The wig does not stick to the scalp. For installation, you only need a cap that covers your natural hair and keeps it in place under the wig.
Wigs are not only for women with serious health issues who have lost all their hair. Wigs are not just for public figures, shows, or the stage. They can just as well be a modern approach for any woman who is open to new experiences and wants to try a different look.
